Engines are probably the most controversial part of this hobby. The are many brands and many price ranges. All engines are not created equal. Some are pure junk and make decent paperweights at best. "OS" makes very good engines and you won't go wrong with an OS. But it will cost you a few more dollars. They are worth it! There are cheaper engines out there, but the quality and performance is questionable. There is nothing more aggravating in this hobby than an engine that won't stay running. And it is very aggravating as an instructor to have to constantly perform dead stick landings. Sooner or later your luck will run out and your plane will be damaged when your engine dies at a bad time. The OS LA .46 is a very good trainer engine. Super Tigre and Thunder Tiger have also worked well. I wouldn't recommend a used engine unless you have seen it in an airplane flying.
