Support Equipment

This is a list of all the things that you need to get your plane in the air. This list could go on indefinitely, but I will try to keep it to the basic things that you must have.

  • Field box - to keep everything in. Any thing from a cardboard box to a nice ready made will work. (Many people use a plastic tool box.)
  • Fuel - There are many varieties out there. Any 10% or 15% from a hobby store will work fine in your trainer.

  • Fuel pump and hoses with plugs to seal your fuel. Fuel will absorb water and become unuseable. Never leave a fuel bottle open or uncapped. There are many commercial fittings available to hook your fuel pump up with.
  • Glow plug battery.
  • Starter either and electric one or a chicken stick. Never try to start an engine with a bare finger!

  • Six inch adjustable wrench, this is the only way to get your propeller properly tightened. (The four way wrenches that you find at the hobby store are not big enough to proprly torque the prop nut.)
  • Good quality screwdrivers, both Phillips and slotted.
  • Glow plug wrench, either a four way or a 5/16" nut driver.
  • Pliers.
  • Allen wrench set.
  • Spare glow plugs and propellers to match your engine.
  • Rubber bands or nylon bolts for wing attachment. (Rubber bands are very cheap. Fuel and sun will destroy them in one afternoon. Don't try and save money by re-using them. Many planes have been lost due to the wing departing from the fuselage in flight.)
  • Stakes to secure your airplane to the ground while starting.
  • Paper towels and cleaner.
